La Comédie Française

A prestigious cultural institution, the Comédie Française was founded in 1680 and has been based in the heart of the Palais-Royal in Paris since 1799. During renovation work, Empreinte was asked to create a set of illuminated signs to be installed in the atrium. The challenge set by the designer was to use these signs to reproduce theatre pulleys.

This was quite a challenge for Empreinte, who had to give the illusion that the pulley was balanced on the rope, which was in fact a flexible LED ribbon. A clever system of counterweights made it possible to meet the challenge. All that remained was to manage the different light intensities between the various hand-patinated objects...
